Subsonik Double Tapered Mainline
Until a few years back, Sonik wasn’t a prime source of main lines to load your reels. Rods, pods, bivvies and alarms, yes, but lines, no. However, that all changed in August 2021 when they released the Subsonik collection of lines. It was met with the kind of praise that usually greets a sitcom from Ricky Gervais. They sink well, cast well, are super tough and have low memory, and best of all, they were friendly on your wallet. For 2023, Sonik has three more products to add to the Subsonik umbrella.
A quick fix to achieving greater casting distance is to take a closer look at your main line choice. It’s also the cheapest option too. Sonik’s new Double Tapered Mainline is one such beast that will 110% increase your distance. Each 990m spool, which is available in breaking strains of 12, 14 and 16lb, holds 3 x 330m lengths with tapering at either end. Thanks to this tapering, the thick, strongest section nearest your end tackle, helps to take the shock of the cast, but within 15 or so metres it reverts back to a much, much thinner line so it absolutely flies through the rings. Add to that the super smooth finish Sonik has given it and you can see why it’s been raved about during the pre-testing stage.
The second element that we really love is the minimal stretch the mono has. This not only helps amplify bite detection, but when it comes to feeling a lead down, even in shallow water, you feel so much more. £39.99
Subsonik Invisicam Monofilament Line
So what’s so special about this new line that goes by the name of Invisicam Monofilament? At first glance you could mistake this unique copolymer monofilament line for braid, such is the depth of colour and camo effectiveness. The integral camouflaged pattern—the human equivalent to a militiaman hanging around an army surplus store—is totally absorbed into its surroundings thanks to the unique patterns which are achieved by mixing greens, browns and blacks together to eliminate the profile of the line. And unlike some other ‘camo’ main lines, this effect doesn’t appear to smudge or wear off in any way.
On top of the camo pattern, it also sinks well and has a very low diameter in relation to its breaking strain (the 15lb version has a diameter of just 0.31mm, whereas most 15lb BS monos are around 0.38mm!). This instantly gives you a huge advantage when it comes to distance casting, but with the added peace of mind that you have a proper robust line to ensure you land what you hook. Add in reduced stretch and memory, and you have a line with enhanced casting qualities and more ‘feel’ when looking for a ‘drop’.

SubSonik Invisicam Snag Leader
