Future-proofed lines

What’s the best way to make sure that your line choice is ahead of the game? Choose a line that’s straight out of the future!

There can’t be many tackle manufacturers in the world that have ploughed the R&D money into inventing new ways to make fishing line than Berkley has. The fruits of that research are now available for us all to use…

Connect CM70

What’s the thing that we love most about this mono? The price. £12.99 for 1,000m of specialist mono, straight out of the Berkley lab; you can’t say fairer than that! The CM70 is set to join vaunted names such as Big Game and Trilene in the carp fishing hall of fame, and with good reason. It’s tough, abrasion resistant, and if you cut it and examined it under the microscope, you’d see the word ‘reliable’ running through it like a stick of rock! Okay, so we made that up, but you get the picture, right? It won’t let you down.

Connect CM90

This one’s Berkley’s new premium mono. It’s easy to see why too: with a supernatural density that allows it to sink more like a fluorocarbon than a conventional mono, a trait that we can see helping it to win over a lot of carpers. Berkley has achieved this density by using pro-grade alloy monofilament polymers, a make-up that contributes to its superb abrasion resistance, huge strength, caring performance and manageability. CM90 is
also available in the same breaking strains and diameters as CM70: 8, 10, 12, 15, 18 and 20lb and on 1,200m spools.

Connect CF600

Berkley has managed to break the mould with this fluorocarbon. Not only does it sink well, and possess a refractive index that means it nigh-on disappears in even clear water, it also casts well, which you just can’t say about so many popular fluorocarbons. The Berkley boffins rate this as, “The best fluorocarbon we’ve ever made”, and it’s easy to see why! It’s stretch factor is less than that of a conventional mono too, which means that you’ll get more indications on the bobbin, and be in full control of a fish a fraction quicker too. It’s available in five breaking strains: 10 (0.30), 12 (0.34), 15 (0.38), 18 (0.40) and 20lb (0.45mm) and is sold on 1,200m spools.

Connect CB2000

When Berkley say that this is its ‘ultimate braided line’ we should take notice; these guys know their braid. CB2000 is mind-bendingly thin, which practically guarantees long-range performance, but it’s also tough too, with Dyneema fibres spun together to offer the ultimate compromise between diameter and toughness. You’ll find 25, 35, 45, 65, 80 and 100lb versions in the range, all supplied on 900m spools. Be prepared to get particularly excited about the 25lb version, which measures a hair-like 0.16mm, and the 45lb (0.25mm) version, both of which will have carp fishing applications.
