Head-to-head: Trakker sleeping bags

Tailor your sleeping requirements thanks to Trakker and its extensive bedding range. Being bankside mid-winter has never been so appealing…

1. AS 365 Sleeping Bag

Thanks to the largest helping of Trakker’s lovely Q7 filling, it means you have the company’s most advanced sleeping bag and something which you, quite literally, cannot get cold in. It gets this unrivalled heat thanks to the Q7’s hollow fibres, with each strand having seven holes in it. This make up allows air to get trapped inside the fibres, creating warm air pockets.

The rest of the bag is just as clever: a reversible inner can be zipped in or out with the choice of fleece or ultra-soft polyester. There are huge internal and external baffles to stop heat loss and air penetrating the zip and running down either side of this 215 x 90cm bag are dual-sided quick-release zips.

“GIMME”: £199.99

Spec sheet
Masses of comfort comes in the form of a filled hood which increases warmth and comfort; there’s the re-engineered bed attachment which features the new dual fixing straps, allowing for the best possible fit.

2. Layers Sleeping Bag

One bag which allows you to regulate your core warmth depending on what Mother Nature has to throw at you. As the name suggests, it has a twin-layered design making it perfect for 2/4-season use. The bottom base is fleece-lined whilst the second layer is that ultra-soft polyester they’ve used on the AS 365. Of course there’s more of that ace Q7 filling inside this 215 x 90cm bag, and that means overly bulky, weightier sleeping bags are now made redundant thanks to this model only weighing 4.75kg. To give that figure some meaning, an equivalent bag which CARPology tested last year weighed 8.5kgs. This too also features the new bedchair fixing strap design.

“GIMME”: £179.99

Spec sheet
The Trakker’s fixing strap design not only allows the best possible fit of the sleeping bag to the bed, but it also gives the bag a smoother profile, allowing free movement of the crash zips.

3. Peachskin Sleeping Bag

Classics are so-called for a reason; they’ve stood the test of time. And this bag has been around for years and years. It’s a bag anglers could rely on; the quality construction, the premium materials and the ace design. “Premium materials” is now the amazing Q7 and this is the very reason why Trakker can give the Peachskin a 5-season rating. It’s fleece-lined too and it features the same filled hood as the AS365 for improved warmth and comfort, along with big external baffles to stop air penetrating the zip.

Unlike the other two bags, the Peachskin comes in two sizes: Standard (215 x 90cm) and Wide (215 x 105cm), weighing in at 4.75 and 5.5kg respectively.

“GIMME”: Standard, £169.99; Wide, £189.99

Spec sheet
Like all the models in Trakker’s collection, this features dual-sized quick-release zips so that you can exit the bag from either side and come in very handy compression sacks to give them the smallest of footprints when not in use.

4. Big Snooze Sleeping Bag Family

Last year, Trakker redesigned this already award-winning bag collection. First off they reshaped them and then gave them an ultra-snug and heat-generating fleece inner and wrapped that in a highly breatheable ripstop outer material. For those times when you need to get out in a hurry – i.e. when the Neville is one-toning – they’ve now all been given quick-release, three-quarter length 10mm dual-sized zips, along with sewn-in secure straps and elasticated hoods at the top and bottom.

There’s now three bags of varying size and weight so there’s something to suit everyone’s needs. They all rate at 3-season, but the Compact measures 200 x 80cm; the Big Snooze + is 215 x 90cm and the Wide is 215 x 110cm.

“GIMME”: Compact, £69.99; Big Snooze +, £74.99; Wide, £89.99

Spec sheet
When it comes to weight, the Compact pulls the scales down to 3kgs; the Big Snooze + is 3.5kgs, whilst the Wide, a full 30cm wider than the Compact, weighs in at 4.5kgs.
