It's time to Rebel!

That’s right, it’s time to retire the old lead-acid heavy-weights of the battery world and get on the li-ion hype!

Into your boat fishing? You’ll be fascinated to learn a little bit more about the name that’s on all the hardcore boat angler’s lips just now: Rebel Cell. The battery that confirmed Euro boating expert, Martin Locke now uses (Laney is on them too) is a million miles away from what you’re used to lugging about with you. Allow us to introduce the 12V100 Angling li-on Battery…

The Big Questions

I’m sick of lugging my old leisure battery about, tell me it’s light…
You beat us to it. The rebel cell 12V100 Angling li-on Battery weighs in at just 10kg, which is a massive weight saving over conventional leisure batteries, which can weigh up to a disc-bulging 25kg. Just think how easy these are going to be to manhandle from the garage to the car, then to the boat and back again. If this battery was nothing more than just half the weight of a normal battery, then we’d be buying one, but there is a lot more to it than its weight!

Will I get more runtime out of it?
That’s one of the other great points about this baby; you can do as much boating about as you like between charges, because the 12V100 Angling li-on Battery will last up to 16hrs; that’s the absolute best, with a 30lb-thrust engine. As your engine size increases, so the battery life is eroded, but even with a 55lb thrust you’ll get between four- and eight-hours of life to go in search of carp afloat.

12V100 Angling Li-ion Battery around £950

They better last a while with that price tag…
Too right… but they do! Rebel Cell reckon you’ll get a service life of up to 10 seasons. To achieve this feat of engineering, Rebel Cell has built in abuse protection, which prevents deep discharge, high voltage or high temperature, all of which can damage the longevity of your precious battery.

What about charging?
They charge fully in an admirable 5hrs, (using a 16V25A charger) and have a state-of-the-art digital charge indicator so you can see just how much your quest for a sighting is taxing the energy reserves of the battery, meaning that you shouldn’t ever run it down fully, leaving you stranded on some distant shore. Now, you will need to invest in a special li-ion battery charger to charge one of these batteries, so you may as well throw out the old lead-acid charger too!

Talk to me about the performance benefits!
So, you already know that the battery charges super-quick and you’ll get plenty of runtime out of it, but you probably don’t know that these things pump out more power and high thrust even when the battery is nearly empty (not that we recommend draining it right down) and Rebel Cell suggests that this deep discharge won’t adversely affect the performance or life cycle.
