Limited Edition Specials: Daiwa's Powermesh rods are built on firm foundations

Image

There aren’t many carp rods around today with a name as evocative as Powermesh. For seasoned carpers, those nine letters will conjure up plenty of happy memories of angling in the 1990s. Back then, the Powermesh range offered great performance at an affordable price. That ethos remains unchanged to this day, but the materials and manufacturing processes have certainly advanced for this special, limited edition collection of the Powermesh C2 rods.

The original rods were famed for their gutsy blanks, created thanks to an interlaced mesh of carbon (hence the name!) that reduced twisting under load and improved power delivery. That performance remains, but it’s now driven by Daiwa’s HVF - High Volume Fibre - technology. Greater density of multi-directional carbon filaments and less bonding resin results in excellent casting power and fish-playing subtlety.

Lightweight Sea-Guide TDG guides also help these current rods snap back into shape after a cast and each model also features an anti-tangle tip ring, too. Daiwa’s V-JOINT system is also used here to avoid flat spots at the join of the rod’s two sections to further improve casting.

Moving further down the Powermesh’s sleek matt 1k-carbon blank you get a Fuji DPS reel seat sitting atop some lovely Japanese shrink wrap providing a comfortable grip for both angler and reel.

There are seven ‘limited edition’ models in the range, with three 12-footers and two 13-footers adorned with 50mm butt rings, and two 10-footers with 40mm butt rings, plus a 12ft 4.5lb spod rod. Test curves range from 2.75lb (10ft) up to 3.75lb (12ft and 13ft models).

Prices range from £150 to £180 depending on the model you opt for. Buy yours here
