No Half Measures!

Despite being fashionably late to the multi-compartment tackle box party, New Direction’s has a host of neat new features which has resulted in a spectacular debut. Here’s everything you need to know...

A product from ND that doesn’t include some form of Bluetooth, a USB3 socket or WiFi extender? Preposterous! ND say different. And what we have before us is the brand’s beautiful and new 63 (you read that right) compartment tackle box: the perfect upgrade to your grotty, scuffed-up, sticker-covered old one.

ND has pitched it as ‘the ultimate storage solution for terminal tackle—and more’ and looking at it, you’d have to agree. It really is packed to the proverbial magnetic locking latches with storage and features. The main box has 12 large compartments, all of which can be adjusted in size and shape to suit your needs. Sitting within one of those areas are two medium boxes, one with 16 compartments (it’s two-tiered—trust us, it’s very neat) and 9 in the other, plus there are two further smaller boxes with labelling fields.

On what is the lid side you’ll find a removable storage box with 24 small compartments, perfect for stowing lead clips, tail rubbers, kickers and the like. While having the ability to change the compartment sizes is again a lovely feature, it’s the double sprung-loaded closing clips on this which steals the show. Instant, smooth and reliable. You’ll have to either watch the video review or try it for yourself in the flesh to really appreciate how amazing they are.

The removable Magnetic Rig Board takes a new look at how rigs should be held and stored. Rather than pins, the two ends of your rig are held by magnetic force, meaning you won’t straighten out your rubber parts, such as line-aligners, Withy Pool Rigs and the like. There is also a slot for the supplied Leader Safe which takes up to six leaders, all of which can be viewed without removing thanks to its transparent case.

ND has built a history for throwing in the odd natty feature, and for their ‘Tackle Box’ it’s the unique Magnetic Ring. In short, it’s an actual ring you wear and allows you to pull out the small boxes with utter (or should that be magnetic?) ease. Of course it’s going to split the audience as to whether it’s brilliant or utterly pointless, but either way, you can remove the boxes with or without it.

We briefly mentioned the main magnetic locking latches, but it’s worth bringing up again. Like those sprung-loaded ones on the removable 24-compartment box, these just hit the right note every time.

For ND’s first dive into the tackle box arena, we’ve got to say, we’re impressed. Really, really impressed. It’s well thought out, very well made and is definitely the most feature-packed box we’ve ever reviewed on these pages. We salute you, ND.
