Oven Ready!
Want to up your cuisine game? With ND’s new Stoven you can cook a roast a with all the trimmings!
Walking into work on a Monday morning and sitting down in a New Direction ideas meeting must be a fun experience. With a seemingly limitless remit to develop all sorts of tackle and accessories, we can only imagine the melting pot of theories and designs that get bandied about at ND HQ—like this one: the Stoven.
Sorry, what’s a Stoven? Surely you mean oven?
Nope, this is indeed a Stoven. That’s a stove crossed with an oven. Stove on top, oven beneath. And this is probably the first bankside oven ever directly marketed at carp anglers.
So this is a fully working oven for your swim?
Yep! It’s smaller than your Hotpoint at home but it’ll get just as hot, so you can cook pies, pizzas and whatever else you might want to bake on the bank.
Blimey. How does it work?
It’s gas fed and there are two gas tubes—one feeding the oven and the other the stove on top. These two tubes connect to a single gas source, like the standard gas bottle you might already use for a standard camping stove. Unlike wood-burning outdoor ovens, your dishes won’t be open to being burnt by naked flames because there’s a guard to keep the heat source shielded from your food. The external thermometer lets you know when the Stoven is up to temperature and the whole thing is constructed from stainless steel.
Okay, so it’s big & bulky then?
No, it all folds away into a heavy-duty bag which is supplied. Because it has a folding design you can also take it apart and put it in your dishwasher at home for easy cleaning. In total, it weighs 5.1kg.
How big is the oven?
You’re not going to be roasting a big Christmas turkey in the ND Stoven, but it has got two separate trays and room for items like individual pies and small pizzas. In terms of its dimensions it’s 29cm high, 20cm wide and 25cm long.
And what about the stove?
The top surface of the Stoven is heated by one of the gas tubes so you can place a pan on top to fry or boil whatever you need, or you can place a camping kettle on top to boil water for a brew.
A foldable oven? What if it collapses in use?
Don’t fret, there are two locking pins to keep it securely assembled and stable. You also get a bundle of accessories including a PVC mat to place it on. An electric lighter and rubber gloves completes the included kit.
I’m intrigued. How much is it?
It’s £179.00 and, like everything from New Direction, is available direct from Amazon.
