Prologic Frame-X1 Bivvy

The Prologic’s new Frame-X Bivvy's unique X-shape means it’s both sturdy and spacious

Prologic have never lived by the rulebook. Take their SMX Alarms for example: “well-priced, well-engineered and pleasing to the eye” are words which don’t usually end up in a sentence, but these alarms are bonafide winners. Even their head consultant, Adam Penning, is a bit of a maverick: everyone says no to oils in winter; so what does Adam do? Loads up his Krill pellets with hemp oil and he has a smashing winter’s fishing. And the same can be said for their new Frame-X Bivvy.

This X-shaped frame design is completely unique to the Danish outfit and provides a number of benefits over traditional frame designs, the first of which becomes instantly apparent as you start to construct it. By slotting together the ribs at their two break points and placing the front rib into the rear ring (and the back rib in the front ring), you’ll notice the bivvy is completely self-standing. Unlike more traditional twin rib designed shelters, the Frame-X doesn’t require a tension strap in order to stand upright.

The second advantage is its sturdy footprint. Because of that crossover on the ribs, it ensures the bivvy is completely structurally sound when there’s a gale raging outside. And to provide even more stability, Prologic have supplied it with two tension poles - the largest of these stretches from the front rib to the rear, holding the fabric between the two completely taut and ensuring that you don’t experience any sagging - even in the heaviest of gushers. The smaller of the two ensures the storm peak is secured in position, helping to keep the sun off the open door of the bivvy, as well as preventing rain from driving in.

The flat back design will see your extra wide, over-indulgence bedchair fit neatly into the rear of the bivvy, leaving acres of space for the storage of all your other essentials: bivvy tackle, luggage, bait, food bag, etc.

Being a multiple-door-option-loving nation, Prologic have equipped the Frame-X with three to cover all options. From a traditional solid front to oust wind and rain, to a clear PVA window to allow more light into the bivvy, and finally to the now must-have mosquito mesh. This latter option is superb for summer angling, when you want to enjoy blissful cool air whilst retaining protection against any nasty warm-weather bugs. But should none of these options suit your needs, then simply unzip them all and use it as an open-fronted day shelter.

The materials used to construct this bivvy are as bullet-proof as the design and build quality. The heavy-duty 210 denier ripstop material isn’t just 100% waterproof, it’s durable too (oh, and it’s also a lovely olive too). The pegging points are manufactured from metal rather than traditional plastic, and it comes supplied with a reinforced groundsheet.

And as we’ve all come to expect from Prologic, it’s well priced too: The bivvy is £199.99 and the Overwrap retails for £89.99. Sold!
