Solar Tackle SP 3+2 Rod Sleeve

Solar’s new SP 3+2 is the perfect middleman: it’s light, functional and fully protective

Solar’s foray into the large ticket item market hasn’t once failed to impress us. In the autumn it was the SP C-Tech Sleep System and P1 Bow-Loc Landing Net (arrh man! That net… simply ravishing!); early winter it was the SP Bankmaster Twin Rib Bivvy (see the video review at YouTube/CARPologyTV); and for this spring it’s green goods in the form of carryalls, cooler bags, bits bags and this: the SP 3+2 Rod Sleeve which really is the epitome of top rod protection on a tight budget.

Designed to provide total protection to your rods, guides and line but with slightly less bulk and weight to competitor’s models. Internally it’ll house three made-up rods, with padded dividers to separate each rod. Two additional rods (spod and marker) can also be fitted externally - hence the name: 3+2. You’ll also find an external, zipped pocket which is designed to hold your landing net, banksticks, baiting pole, etc.

SP 3+2 Rod Sleeve £54.99

Of course you don’t need to question whether it’ll comfortably fit your 50mm butts and oversized big pit reels, and the same could be said for the fixtures and fittings: double, full-length heavy-duty zips run down the sides; fully padded carry handles and removable shoulder strap are akin to those used on mountaineering equipment; and the whole thing is made from an ultra hard-wearing, PU-backed waterproof material which, like all Solar products, will outlast your lifetime.

Quite frankly, this is the best rod sleeve system we’ve ever seen and used – and better still, it’s a winner too when it comes to the price.
