The Cyprinus Wideguy...

A bedchair – only bigger and cheaper!

From the days of Lilo beds and beach sun loungers, carp anglers have continually looked for a better night’s sleep whilst on the bank. Thankfully uncomfortable and uneven sleeping postures are now pretty much a thing of the past with modern-day bedchairs featuring more elements of bedtime bliss than a Lenny Henry Premier Inn advert. Yes, some bedchairs are different to others and there can be some ‘big’ differences – as with the one we’re looking at here: The Wideguy Bedchair from Cyprinus Carp Technology…

Go on then, what’s so different about it?
Well, there is one big difference with this bedchair: it’s bloody big! The Wideguy, as the name suggests, is a whopping 109cm wide and 210cm long, so it’s one of the biggest XL bracket bedchairs out there and thanks to that extra width it allows the biggest of anglers plenty of room to spread themselves out for a better night’s kip. In fact, the Wideguy bedchair is rated at managing weights to over 250 kilos – that’s 39-stone, meaning if you occasionally take the other half to the bank, you can simply share one bedchair. Simply put: it’s big enough and man enough to cope with anything.

Man enough to cope? Is that your way of politely saying this bedchair is heavy?
Okay, we’ll rephrase that to ‘strong enough’ to cope, because the last thing the Wideguy is, is heavy – weighing in at a lightweight 9.5kgs. As we’ve already said, the bedchair is strong enough to handle two occupants and to combine this rigidity with lightness is built with upon an ultra strong aero-light aluminium frame.

That’s light and I like the idea of sharing with my girlfriend, but is the bedchair padded enough for two people?
The Wideguy features an extra padded mattress running down the central area, with a nice, easy-wipe, heavy-duty boot protection section at the foot end plus an integral pillow at the top, head end. There is also a ‘double’ layer of padding on essential points such as the outer frame and ratchet boss position.

What really increases the comfort of the bedchair are the four adjustable legs, complete with swivel mud feet, providing a rock solid balanced and level sleeping position even when the ground of your swim is uneven. Elasticated cord then runs the full length of bedchair to maintain the balance between supportive tension and softness within the mattress. The only real thing you need to worry about with this bedchair is that once you lay down on it you won’t want to get back up!

I like to sit up on my bedchair during the day, but is this possible with a four-leg system?
Yes. Despite the four legs, the Wideguy features a single boss ratchet situated between the two legs in the upper body half of the bedchair, meaning you can easily adjust and lock the final head section into an upright sitting position. More comfortable and suitable to watching the lake during the day or reading the latest edition of ‘Ology at night without the risk of back or neck ache.

Sounds good to me. How much do they cost?
