Hang on, you’ve clearly made a mistake: super warm can’t be super waterproof…
In previous times, that was true. Fortis’s own collaboration with Snugpak resulted in the red-hot (quite literally) SJ9, but that’s only water-resistant. The Tundra, unlike the SJ9 and FJ6, is 100% waterproof and features a windproof 2-Layer Triflex™ outer shell, which is packed to the seams with Primaloft® insulation which will keep you cosy down to -20ºc.
Wow! Sounds great, but whilst on the outside I’ll remain dry, what about on the inside?
No need to worry there, Mr Neggers! That clever Triflex™ fabric is highly breathable, so it wicks away moisture generated from high levels of activity. And for added peace of mind, these two pieces have been developed over four winters—yes, four!—and tested in the harshest, most extreme fishing conditions by the likes of Oz Holness and Si Bater.
What about features, then…
Right, are you ready for some seriously impressive stats? Fully tape-seamed construction. Well north of 25,000mm waterproofness and 25,000g/m2 breathability. 300g/m2 Primaloft insulation—which is extra special on these pieces, but more on that shortly. Stormproof stiffened peak adjustable hood. 2-way YKK® Vislon front zip with external storm flap. When it comes to pockets, the jacket is littered with them: two handwarmer pockets, which can be accessed when wearing a rucksack. Internal large stash mesh pockets and strategically placed internal zipped pocket for your phone or bite alarm receiver. Regarding fit, it’s termed as ‘Classic’: “a versatile, relaxed fit with room for layering,” says Darran Goulder, MD of Fortis.
Holy cow! That’s ridiculous. What’s so special about the insulation then?

We sure did, and to be honest, in terms of build quality and materials, it pretty much mimics the jacket. The insulation has been reduced slightly to 200g/m2, so they’ll keep your legs and torso toastie down to -15ºc rather than -20, but aside from that, they are almost identical twins.

Both garments are available in two colourways: Olive or DPM, and the jacket retails for £249.99 and the salopettes £179.99.
