XTRA TOUGH TRIG-HAMMER

ESP never fails to deliver great hooks, and now we have a heavy-duty version of their latest blockbuster, the Trig-Hammer

Launched in 2019, the original Trig-Hammer is becoming as legendary as the brand’s biggest consultant, Terry Hearn. Similar to ESP’s creation of the Stiff Rigger for the Hinged Stiff Link, the Trig-Hammer was the world’s first dedicated Ronnie/Spinner Rig hook. It instantly became the go-to pattern for many anglers using this type of presentation. Now, they’ve introduced an upgraded version: Cryogen Trig-Hammer XT.

1. Original features
The fundamental characteristics that underpinned the original Trig’s immense success remain unchanged: its lengthy, ultra-sharp needle point and aggressively sweeping curved shank guarantee exceptional hook holds.

2. Heavier wire
The new XT hooks feature a 0.1mm increase in wire gauge for each size. While this might seem insignificant, it represents a notable enhancement in strength, even on larger carp hooks. When compared side by side with the originals, the disparity in wire gauge becomes unmistakable.

3. Forging
This increased wire gauge has then been coupled with ESP’s renowned heavy forging and twin tempering process. This combination significantly boosts strength while also providing a slight reduction in flexibility.

4. Super sharp
You may assume that a thicker wire could compromise point sharpness—and that assumption would hold true had it not been for the marginally longer, finer, and, therefore, sharper point ESP has given the XT. To further enhance penetration and point durability, each hook is finished in the brand’s tried and trusted slick PTFE coating.

5. More sizes
While the original range only extended to a size 4, the new XT series now introduces a size 2 option. It’s a substantial hook, but demand from anglers tackling continental waters and expansive weedy venues, particularly those employing braid at long distances, prompted the Oxford-based company to respond with this larger size. The XT range is offered in both micro-barbed and barbless variations, spanning sizes 2, 4, 5, and 6, priced at £4.95 for a pack of 10 hooks.
