RidgeMonkey Pola-Flex Sunglasses
Far from polarising opinion, the new glasses from RidgeMonkey are set to be a success
Since it completely disrupted the carp market after bursting onto the scene in 2014, the RidgeMonkey machine has steamrollered on, releasing a controlled avalanche of new products that have quickly found favour with even the most picky carpers. Their latest endeavour concerns the polarising glasses market, a slice of business that the RM crew aims to take by storm with the Pola-Flex range…
The Big Questions
They’re a bit expensive, aren’t they?
Well, as carp fishing glasses go, yes they’re at the upper end of market. In terms of glasses generally though, not really! They’re pretty good value actually and here’s why. Most carp fishing glasses feature plastic lenses, but the Pola-Flex range boasts glass lenses throughout. Yes, this makes them marginally more heavy than their plastic counterparts (still a skimpy 49g), but that’s a small price to pay for having the clearest lenses on the market.
So, I won’t want to be scratching them then?
Nope, but the RidgeMonkey team has piled the odds in your favour in that regard. The Pola-Flex glasses come supplied with an adjustable lanyard (to stop you losing them, or catching their fall if they slip off!), a soft cloth wipe to keep that glass unblemished, and that crucial hardcore to stop the glasses being scratched in transit.
What’s the technical spec?
Okay, so the RM team decided on 64mm glass lenses, sunk into flexible frames with Hyper-Flex spring hinges. The upshot of that is that you’ll have to work that bit harder to squash them! The flex that the team has engineered into the frames might just save your new favourite glasses from the bin if you sit on them in the motor. You’ll also get UV400 protection as standard from glass lenses, saving your eyes from damage.
I like an amber lens, are they doing one?
Yep, the guys have released three lens-types: Vibrant Amber for medium to low-light conditions; Dark Bronze for medium to high light; and Smoke Grey, which are perfect for high-light summer conditions.
What about the styling?
They’re all supplied in the same style initially, in the lightweight wrap-style frames that the development team chose for its unrivalled comfort and practicality. These glasses cut out light well, and you won’t even notice that you’re wearing them, meaning that if you go into location mode for several hours, you’ll be none the worse!
