Does rig glue damage your hooklengths?

Big fish angler Mark Bryant answers your top rig-related questions and this time focuses on rig glue

In my experience rig glue does not damage your hooklink materials and personally I don’t think that it is needed for braided or coated braided hooklinks. These hooklinks are very tough and hardwearing and if you stick to the recommended knots and breaking strains, then rig glue isn’t needed.

I do use rig glue for light monos and fluorocarbon rigs because of the inherent stretching qualities these materials possess. When tying up these lighter hooklinks for zig, floater fishing or just simply scaling down in the winter, I always use a dab of glue on the finished knots to stop them stretching and potentially weakening during a lengthy battle. This is heightened when tying the Knotless Knot rig as invariably you have the mono/fluorocarbon stretching down the shaft of the hook and then over the eye. The result? Ping! The hooklink parts right on the knot. A small dab of glue locks this into place stopping the stretch resulting in more fish on the bank.”
