How to tie and when to use the Multi Rig
How, why and when to tie the Multi Rig by Jim Wilson
When using pop-ups, I’m quite happy to use the biggest hook I can get away with. Generally, I use a 15mm pop-up in conjunction with a size 6 Choddy. This is mounted on one of my two favourite rigs – a Hinge or the Multi-Rig, which I’m revealing here.
The great thing about this presentation is the fact that the hook can be changed in a split second, maximising your bank time. Using a coated braid, tie an overhand-loop and trim the tag end. Place this through the eye of the hook and then slide on a rig ring. Take the loop back over the point of the hook and this will create a ‘D’.
Remove a section of the coating, revealing the soft inner and squeeze a split shot on top. This will determine how high the pop-up will be sitting off the lakebed. It’s as easy as that! I fish the Multi-Rig over boilies only and would say that it’s very selective once again for picking out the bigger carp. The hook holds are second to none!
1 These are all the components you’ll need for Jim's rig.
2 Start by tying a loop using a Figure-Of-Eight Knot like so.
3 Pull this down nice and securely for a loop about this size.
4 Now place the loop through the eye of the hook like this.
5 The next step is to thread the rig ring down onto the loop.
6 Now take the loop back over the point of the hook like so.
7 Don’t pull the loop tight! Form the ‘D’ so that it sits like this.
8 Strip back a little bit of the coating near to the knot next.
9 Mount your pop-up onto the ring by tying on with floss.
10 Squeeze your split shot onto the supple section as shown.
11 Roll on some putty using the shot as an anchor.
12 Attach to your terminal gear and that’s it! Job’s a good’un!
