Rod Hutchinson Cabrio Compact Bivvy
The history steeped Hutchinson brand continues to put out quality kit at affordable prices, and the Cabrio Compact is no different…
1. A one-man wonder
The Cabrio Compact fits neatly into the ‘pram-hood’ one-man market, offering all the renowned features associated with this sort of shelter, namely maximum headroom and useable floor template, as well as maximum rigidity and stability for coping with whatever the weather throws at you. Based on a three ‘rib’ design constructed from aluminium for weight reduction, you have a good balance of strength and ease of lugging around.
2. Whatever the weather
If you are an all-season angler you need a shelter that offers some flexibility, and the Cabrio Compact does that superbly, giving you the option of a full zip-out front panel for those lazy, hazy open-fronted summer sessions, as well as a full zip-in mozzie mesh panel. The standard front panel also offers smaller mozzi mesh panels and a clear, winterised PVC door gives you wet weather protection and visibility. Rear vent panels offer increased air-flow for summer use and with fully taped and weather-proofed detailing, the Cabrio is a truly flexible all weather shelter.
3. Pound-stretching
The Cabrio Compact is priced with budget in mind, and coming in at almost half the price of some of the similar spec models from other companies, it offers a decent wedge of detailing and quality of cut. With a fully waterproof and breathable 20,000mm hydrostatic head material, fully taped seams, rain guttering, dual height pegging points, tensioning straps, Velcro rod retainers, carry bag and pegs included, all in you have a serious package
if this is your first foray into the world of all weather shelters.
4. Mozzies? No problem
Summer days seem to be getting hotter by the year, and with that comes the scourge of the summer, the mozzie. There is little more frustrating or painful than the evening onslaught of the little biting bastards. We rarely angle without a mozzie front in the summer these days, and the Cabrio offers you the luxury of a full zip-on mozzie front as standard, as well as just the usual smaller front panels. Consequence? A good night’s kip, courtesy of maximum protection, air-flow and vista from your bed, minimum itchy, scratchy, irritation from the insect life!
5. Under one roof
We’ve already alluded to it, but the Cabrio Compact offers an incredibly flexible shelter for the entry level first time buyer. Spring, summer, autumn or winter, the Cabrio will cater nicely. Solid in an autumn wind, or cool in the summer breeze, it will cope with it all. Add the heavy-duty groundsheet and you have a fully-fledged wet weather shelter, or remove the front panel for an open-fronted summer overnighter.
