Room With A (Very Big) View!

Looking for a home-from-home experience whilst on a long session? Allow us to introduce the palatial Sonik AXS Bivvy 2 Man—you need it!

When a car manufacturer designs a new saloon model it often feels like the estate version is a bit of an after-thought as far as overall looks go. The same can also be said when stylish one-man bivvies morph into ugly two-man marquees, but not with this camo cracker from Sonik, which appears both big and beautiful.

I thought I was familiar with the Sonik AXS range, but what’s this?
You probably have seen an original one-man AXS at your local venue because they sold like hot cakes, but there are two things to consider with the bivvy we have in front of us here. Firstly, it’s in the relatively new Sonik camo—which is very stylishly executed indeed—and it’s a two-man, with plenty of room for Euro trips or doubling up with a mate or partner in this country.

What are the specs like?
The AXS 2 Man is built around lightweight anti-twist 6061 aluminium poles linked to a super-strong aluminium centre block with Sonik’s camo Cloudbase fabric over the top. That’s got a 10,000mm hydrostatic-head waterproof rating and a lovely durable texture to it. There’s a large peak over the front door and a flat back with large mozzi vents for extra air flow. The bivvy’s sides are also steeply angled to maximise internal space. A clip-in heavy-duty groundsheet and proper pegs come as standard and there are multiple front-door options including a two-letterbox mode and mozzi vents.

How big is it?
MASSIVE! It’s plenty big enough to swallow two bedchairs with space around them. It measures 3.65m deep, 3.2m wide and 1.9m high. That means you’ll need a fair bit of space in which to erect it, but once it’s up it will be a home-from-home on those long sessions in the UK or further afield.

Is it single skinned?
Yes, which obviously means it’s quick to put up, but can create condensation and insulation issues. However, Sonik have thought of that with a range of accessories to really live in luxury.

Such as?
Firstly, the Vapour Cap, which will arrive in shops later this year, which adds a second skin where you need it most (over the main living area) to beat condensation. And even more interestingly are two inner capsules. Both add twin-skin protection with a sewn-in groundsheet, but the single option divides this two-man bivvy into a separate sleeping area and a main living area, while the double version turns the whole bivvy into a double-skin shelter.
