Should you top up after every bite?
Fed up of listening with bleeding ears to the lake bore who knows absolutely everything and everything?
The myth
‘You hear it a lot: ‘just a couple of Spombs after every bite to top up the spot’, but is this enough or too much?’
The reality
“The harsh reality, as we have already seen, is that our casting isn’t as accurate as we would like it to be and the amount of bait contained in each individual spod isn’t that much. True enough, the large Spombs and Impact Spods pack a fair punch, but the bait does tend to spread out and as a result the perceived effect of a big carpet of bait doesn’t happen very often. If there’s liquid in it a lot of the apparent bulk will not even get to the bottom so you could usually do with putting a lot more in than you actually have to get the effect that you think you are getting. In fact, I couldn’t even consider my area to be a baited spot without about 20 in, especially fishing particles and hemp. Boilies are a different matter of course, as they are slightly more substantial than particles etc., but bear in mind when the boilies come out they don’t spread very widely at all and a better option rather than a clump of them on the deck may be catapult.”
