Solar SP Barrow Bag/Rucksack

Solar’s new ruck/barrow wonder will last you a lifetime and organise your kit

Solar Tackle have been around for 30-plus-years. But this year the Kent-based makers of everything stainless, carbon and beautiful, has produced its first luggage collection, and just as we predicted when we first heard the whispers some 12-months ago, it’s nothing short of sensational in all areas: features, materials and construction. But with carp luggage aplenty when doing a Google search, how is Solar hoping to better the competition?

The fold-flat internal organisers will keep your tackle in order

The Big Questions

Hang on, last I heard Solar just made buzzer bars and indicators…
You need to get with the times, my friend! Thanks to a recent investment, Solar now have the means to really show their mustard. Along with the 2017-launched P1 rod support range, in 2018 expect bivvies, beds and a lot more of what you’re looking at here: the SP Luggage collection.

What’s so special about it then?
There are three major differences when compared to other luggage items. 1: It’s very high-end; the build quality supersedes anything else we’ve had the pleasure of trailling. 2: It’s packed with features; clever detailing that you’d only expect to find on a product that’s been designed by Martin Locke. 3: The fact it’s been designed by Martin Locke - one of the world’s most experienced and best tackle inventors.

Clever features you say…
As its title suggests, it’s a barrow bag come rucksack. Starting with the outside, it’s constructed from Solar’s ultra hard-wearing, PU-backed, waterproof material which has a waterproof EVA base. On the flip side is a stiffened ‘tabletop’ lid that doubles as a bivvy table, and here you’ll also find the unique removable shoulder straps, enabling it to be converted from a rucksack to a barrow bag in seconds. EVA handles make for easier loading into the car, onto the barrow, or around the swim, and the five external, double-zipped pockets will keep you organised. Inside, there’s fold-flat internal organisers, and when combined with Solar’s other accessory
bags, it makes for the ultimate organised storage system around.

Impressive. What do the figures look like though?
We’ll start with the dimensions: 60(L) x 54(W) x 23(D)cm, which weighs in at 3.15kg. And, surprisingly, for such a feature-packed, high-end piece of luggage, it retails below the hundred-pound mark, which we think is pretty bloody awesome!
