The pro's secret bait edges

Ever wondered why the likes of Blair, Cundiff and Castle seem to always be so successful? Well, here’s one part of the answer: their own unique bait additives

1. Pete Castle

Product: Sugar.
Reason: “Salt seems to be all the rage at the moment, but sugar can be equally devastating. We love it and the carp love it too! Try adding it to all mixes - spod or bag mixes.”

2. Lewis Read

Product: Natural Live Yoghurt.
Reason: “I like to leave a bag of the bait in the airing cupboard overnight with a good coating of live natural yoghurt glop’d all over it; they love it!”

3. Ian Poole

Product: Ground Nut Oil.
Reason: “A really excellent and cheap addition to any spod, groundbait or Stick mix. Please note though, it’s only suitable for warm weather use.”

4. Myles Gascoyne

Product: Coconut milk - full fat!
Reason: “It’s an amazing ingredient when you want to really cloud up the water. If I’m Spombing over Zigs I will always add this stuff - get on it!”

5. Julian Cundiff

Product: Chinese Roasted Sesame Seed Oil.
Reason: “I used to include it in my Big Fish Mix, but nowadays I mostly use it in my groundbait mix – a deadly additive.”

6. Alan Blair

Product: Olbas Oil.
Reason: “Designed for colds, but it’s equally as good for enhancing your bait! I’ve had great success applying one drop to my Zig hookbaits, especially during the winter months.”

7. Tim Childs

Product: Any fish-type additives.
Reason: “Anything like tuna, salmon and pilchards. These oily, rich in attractant are perfect for any spod or Stick mix. Try mixing a tin with your hemp and pellets.”

8. Pete Castle (again!)

Product: Creamed style corn.
Reason: “Green Giant produce it and it looks a bit like liquidised sweetcorn. Simple add it to any spod or bag mix and you’ll catch all day long - awesome!”
