Wychwood MHR MK2 Brolly
This well-thought-out shelter is among the best in the business, and here’s why…
Made from the same glorious ripstop fabric as the original MHR System, this updated version keeps all the best bits and tweaks all the rest. So what exactly is new then? Well, there’s more pegging points to enable you to get the shelter nice and low at the front, improved internal Velcro rib holders and a tougher, more durable bell cap.
The colour has also been tweaked to match the rest of Wychwood’s kit and we’re not ashamed to say we love it. Deny it all you want, but looks matter when it comes to shelters, and Wychwood have nailed the colour and texture of the fabric on this brolly. It just works.
Speaking of the fabric, it’s the same 10,000mm-hydrostatic-head stuff that was so impressive on the MK1, and it continues to impress. What also impresses is the way everything works on this system. The carry bag is big enough, for a start, so you won’t be wrestling to put it away, and the shorter storm poles tuck into protective neoprene holders beautifully, as do the two ends of the fibreglass pole that gives the peak rigidity.
The front panel, with mozzie or solid options, zips on effortlessly and the whole product feels like it had a proper testing and development period. It’s a brolly executed very well indeed.

Our Big Three Favourites
1 Wychwood’s five-year warranty
A five-year repair-or-replace warranty was largely unheard of in the fishing industry until Wychwood rolled theirs out sometime back. It’s the type of piece of mind that might just sway your decision when looking at a brolly, and just cements our love for this shelter even more.
2 Unique internal storage pockets
There was a time when brollies were the most rudimentary of shelters. They offered a cramped roof over your head and little else. These days things are different, and the internal storage pockets on the MK2 MHR are a great example of the extra thought that goes into modern brollies.
3 That ripstop fabric
Greasy, shiny nylon is so last century. If you want to see an example of a beautiful modern shelter fabric then take a look at the one wrapped around the MHR. Unbelievably tough, yet not heavy, water just runs off this stuff. The colour is absolutely spot-on, too!
