Wychwood Riot Rods

Wychwood’s entry-level rods cover all bases at a barely believable price

Modern carp anglers really are spoilt for choice when it comes to quality rods at affordable prices right now. Sitting right at the top of that tree is the Riot range from Wychwood. Starting at under £50 and encompassing 9, 10 and 12ft options, this is a complete lineup for the modern carper. And you can even snap them up on an official buy-two-get-one-free deal, making them great for beginners or more experienced anglers looking to get a second set of wands, or dipping a toe in the emerging short-rod market.

Visually, these rods tick all the boxes, especially the cork-handle versions, which look like they cost twice as much. If cork isn’t your thing, then fear not, because you can choose an EVA option, too. You even get fashionable 50mm butt rings on the 12-footers (40mm on the shorter rods), and DPS reel seats throughout the range.

All the blanks are slim and lightweight, with a good-looking matt finish, built-in line clips and laser-etched butt caps. The 9-footer boasts a 2.75lb test curve and the 10-footer a 3lb test curve, while the 12ft can be purchased as a 3.25 or 3.5lb version. In addition to this, there’s a beefed-up 12ft Utility model, which is perfect for use as a spod or marker rod.

Whether you’re looking for a second set of rods for less secure venues, intrigued by the 9ft revolution, or looking for your first set of proper carp rods, the Riots are well worth investigating.
