Sonik’s pint-sized shelter is a big launch
Rocking up at Wraysbury last month and displaying their latest wares, Sonik made a big statement of intent as we headed into the period tackle dealers known as ‘show season’. We’ve covered their key releases in a walkaround video on our YouTube channel (CARPologyTV), but one item we had to share with you now is the Xtractor Bivvy.
1. Space-saving design
This limpet-like shelter has steep sides which help maximise space on a small footprint. That space-saving ethos extends to its packaway size, too. It fits into a compact carry bag that’s much shorter than most bivvies and brollies.
2. Aluminium hub
The skeleton of the Xtractor Bivvy is aluminium, with what Sonik say is a super-strong central hub for ultra-quick set-up times. Coming out of that central block are lightweight 16mm anti-twist 6061 aluminium poles. Getting set-up and packed away should be child’s play, and you also get the added bonus of storm poles included.
3. Fabric and extras
This is fundamentally a lightweight shelter so don’t expect the thickest fabric, but the PU-backed polyester with a 5,000mm hydrostatic head should keep the elements at bay. You also get a removable Rubba-lite groundsheet and a vapour cap which keeps condensation to a minimum.
4. Mobile-friendly
With everything included, the Xtractor Bivvy weighs in at 9kg, which isn’t overweight by any stretch of the imagination. However, if you pare it back to just the essentials you can get that weight down to around 5kg, which makes it a seriously svelte shelter ideal for roaming anglers.
5. Doors and vents
All extras are included in the Xtractor’s £299.99 recommended retail price, and that includes plenty of door options with a zip-on front panel complete with mozzie-mesh side windows. The front door has two-way letterbox zips with green, clear or mozzie-mesh panels and there are rear fresh-air vents with mozzie panels and internal open/close options.
